Our top 5 beaches to visit in Pembrokeshire!

The summer holidays are just beginning and with the stunning weather we’ve had recently, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the 50+ beaches Pembrokeshire has to offer! Growing up and living in Pembrokeshire has meant we’ve come to love and enjoy much of its stunning coastline and beaches, through both rain and shine.

Here’s our favourite beaches to visit on the Pembrokeshire coast, whatever the weather or season!

1. Newgale Beach

We couldn’t not include Newgale Beach, one of our most visited and loved beaches, with Newgale Holiday Parks just yards away from the sand, it’s a beach enjoyed by ourselves and many of our customers. You’ll always find a spot to enjoy on the almost 2 mile long stretch of sand backed by its impressive pebble bank. This blue flag beach is patrolled by lifeguards all summer long which makes it the perfect place to learn to surf, bodyboard or kitesurf with our neighbours Newsurf at the North end of the beach! If water-sports aren’t your thing, many of our customers have felt the benefits of wild swimming by taking the plunge at Newgale even on Christmas Day!

2. Porthmynawyd Beach

Or more commonly known as Pointz Castle Beach.

Only a few coves over from Newgale you’ll discover this hidden treasure. Accessible only by foot, Pointz Castle Beach is the perfect spot to cool off by taking a quick dip in the sea after walking the Coast Path from Solva towards Newgale. It makes for its own scenic walk from Pointz Castle Ice Cream, after saying hello to the cows onsite at the farm and sampling some of the best homemade ice cream in the county, head down the hill to find this almost secret beach. We often visit this cove all year round and it’s quickly become a favourite amongst our friends and visitors to the site!

3. Newport Sands

Also known as Traeth Mawr (Welsh for Big Beach), Newport Sands is a longer walk or a short drive from our site Newport Bay Caravan Parklands, but is totally worth it. Its mile of flat sand and sand dunes is busy in the summer with kayaks and sups. With the estuary leading out into the sea at the beach, it makes the perfect place to explore both on the fresh and salt water. Like Newgale Beach, Newport Sands is also lifeguarded all summer long making it a safe swimming spot for all the family. As well as being close to Newport town with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy after your beach day, the Cat Rock Cafe and beach cafe, Caffi Mawr mean you don’t have to go far to grab some refreshments if you decide to leave the picnic basket at home!

4. Aberbach, Dinas Cross

One of our favourite secret swimming spots in Pembrokeshire. Less than a mile away from Castle Farm Caravan Park you’ll stumble across Aberbach, most of the time its only ever visited by coastal path walkers however, it is a rare to see another people at this beach. This beach has been loved and visited by our family for generations, Beatrice Merrick would often relate fond memories of playing on the rocks and swimming in the sea here as a child. During the summer it’s the perfect spot for snorkelling in its crystal clear waters. This well sheltered cove often means the waters are calm here even when neighbouring beaches have rougher seas, which makes it the perfect spot for sunbathing in the summer and cold water swimming throughout the Winter, if you can brave it!

5. Barafundle Bay

From the least known to one of Pembrokeshire’s best known beaches, Barafundle Bay. After all, how could we miss out what has been voted one of the best beaches in the world? In all honesty, with the almost limitless selection of stunning beaches we have in North Pembrokeshire, for a long time I wasn’t sure that Barafundle Bay was one of the best beaches in Pembrokeshire let alone the world. However after my last few visits my mind has been completely changed. This bay is often compared to the beaches of the Caribbean with its soft white sandbank backed by pine trees and crystal clear waters, it makes the perfect spot for a dip whatever time of day. Personally I love to come here in the evening to avoid the crowds. Even in the peak of August we’ve come of an evening and enjoyed the whole beach to ourselves!
