The Best Dog-friendly Restaurants in North Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire is a paradise for dog-walkers, from the long open stretches of golden beaches to the many national park walks that show off the natural beauty the county has to offer — there are countless amazing places to explore with your four-legged friend. A great reward for a long walk is a stop at a local pub or restaurant en route to refuel. Luckily, thanks to the county being a hotspot for dog owners, there are plenty of independently run eateries that are dog-friendly, many of which are in the north of the county — a short drive away from our parks at Matthew Baker Caravans. Here are our picks for the best food on offer that you can eat next to your walking companion.

The Stirling Brasserie, The Wolfscastle Country Hotel

The first location on our list is a restaurant at The Wolfscastle Country Hotel, which is located just outside of Haverfordwest — a short drive away from our Newgale site at Matthew Baker Caravans.

The Stirling Brasserie at Wolfscastle Country Hotel offers a modern, informal dining experience with the chance to sample honest, quality dishes, made from the finest ingredients that Pembrokeshire and its surround has to offer. The food at Wolfscastle strives for excellence, with their other restaurant, The Allt Yr Afon, recieving three AA rosette accreditation and features in the Michelin Guide! Well-behaved dogs are welcome at selected tables. They are open seven days a week for all-day dining served 12 – 9. They even serve afternoon tea and Sunday lunch if that takes your fancy!

There is also a great walk which is perfect for dogs nearby, which takes you into the Sealyham Woods. Also, not far away is the Lion Head Rock, which features a circular walk offering stunning views.

The Royal Oak, Fishguard

Another location we recommend is The Royal Oak, located in the heart of Fishguard. This pub is a short car journey away from our Dinas Cross caravan park and is worth visiting if you are in Fishguard for an afternoon. Fishguard is a beautiful town to explore with this pub being next to a pretty church on the high street. This pub specialises in locally-sourced ingredients, whether it’s meat from a local butcher, freshly caught fish or locally grown vegetables, this location will give you a taste of Pembrokeshire.

A great dog-friendly walk in this area is the Marine Walk, which is a short but scenic walk that gives you breathtaking panoramas of Fisgard Bay. On a clear day, you will spot ferries heading to Rosslare in Ireland, and you might even be lucky enough to see dolphins or porpoises offshore. This dog-friendly trail has gentle inclines and lots of sniffing opportunities. It links nicely with pubs like The Royal Oak back in town, making it a popular loop for walkers.

The Bishops, St David's

The next location on our list that we would recommend for any dog-walker is The Bishops in St David’s. This rustic pub in the UK’s smallest city offers a seasonal Welsh menu in a cosy setting. This is closest to our Newgale site and is worth the drive to visit St David’s.

Dogs are welcome in The Bishops, making it the perfect end or mid-point to your walk around beautiful St David’s. The Bishops provides a fantastic menu with many seasonal Welsh dishes and specials available all year round, served 7 days a week. There is nearly always fresh fish amongst the specials and in the season locally sourced lobster, crab and mackerel, subject to availability.

Castle Inn, Newport

The last location on our list that we recommend is The Castle Inn in Newport, a short drive away from one of our caravan parks. This 19th-century, traditional Welsh stone building in the heart of Newport in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is perfect for a long walk with your dog. The Castle Inn offers a classic, homely bar, restaurant and beer garden. The bar area features an open fireplace to create a warm and friendly atmosphere for our guests and their furry companions

Those were our picks for the dog-friendly restaurants, which are just a short journey away from our parks at Matthew Baker Caravans. Pembrokeshire also has outstanding offerings in the south of the county for you to try. We love supporting other local businesses, and we think that our food industry is important to keep alive for future generations.
